To translate the Japanese characters position the cursor over them
At Alfredton, Japanese is taught to all of our students. All children learn Japanese for one hour each week.
At present, the Prep and Grade 1 children have been reading
, and studying the names of fruits and vegetables. We have also been learning
Deguchi Sensei's "Fruit and Vegie Rock and Roll". We have also learnt animal
words, numbers and colours.
Grade 2 have been learning the names of classroom objects and
will soon be reading
Grade 3 and 4 children have been learning about time, telling
the time, days of the week, months of the year, birthdays
and
special events. We've also been playing ![]()
Grade 5 students have just finished a unit on "Shopping", where they set up their own shops, and had a chance to be both the customer, and the shopkeeper. As present we are reading Sadako, and 1,000 Paper Cranes", and making cranes by the hundred, as we remember Peace Day.
Grade 6 children are preparing for their
, which they will perform for their classmates. They must have at least 12 sentences,
including their name, age, family preferences, sports, hobbies, etc. They are
also reading "The Miracle Tree". This is a story about three people after the
bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. It tells about a gardener, who plants a tree,
so that he can see beautiful things grow again. In this story, an old lady makes
cranes to place in a Christian church, so Grade 6 students are also making cranes.
