Learning Technology

At Alfredton Primary School the children use technology as a tool to supplement their learning in a number of curriculum areas. We have recently networked the entire school to a central server that allows all classrooms access to core software programs, internet and e-mail. We have developed two computer laboratories that perform specific and quite different functions.

SuccessMaker lab

The SuccessMaker laboratory is used mainly by children in grades two, three and four and is a skill-based program that targets literacy and numeracy. The children have four sessions each week and work at an individual level. Their progress is closely monitored by an extensive evaluation and reporting facility within the program.

Computer lab

Our second laboratory consists of 30 multimedia IBM desktop computers that are fully networked and have Internet and e-mail access. Children in grades five and six have priority use of this laboratory and use technology as a tool to develop skills in a variety of challenging ways. The children in grade two, three and four also have regular access to this facility. The school has also purchased a digital camera, scanner, digital video camera, video editing software and big screen to provide additional support to our technology program.
